NZAME CONVENTION 2006

In 2006 I was lucky enough to attend my 3rd NZAME Convention held 20 - 23 October at the Kingsgate Hotel & Conference Centre, Garnett Avenue, Hamilton, New Zealand. The theme of the convention was "Slumber through the Ages". To keep costs down I stayed in a self-contained cabin at the Hamilton City Holiday Park. From here it was just a short drive (about 5km) to/from the Conference Centre.

Friday - registrations began, sales tables and displays set up. My displays were humble affairs: a "Bag a Basket Stall" and a halfscale "Tiny Tots Baby Shop" plus I had a halfscale nautical-style boy's bedroom in my local club's display set in a clock. Mine is second up from the bottom.

Saturday - workshops, AGM and moonlight walk around the displays
I attended a morning workshop entitled "Flowers in a Tub". I didn't finish there but this is the completed project now. Neat ha? The afternoon workshop was a halfscale "Baby in a Crib" which I also didn't finish and still haven't.

Sunday - workshops, Convention dinner
The workshop today for me was a 1/144th scale "Scottish Croft House". Yes you guessed it. I didn't finish and still haven't. I didn't attend the dinner but I was lucky enough to win one of the in-house raffles. Isn't she beautiful?

Monday - roundtable workshops
Today I became a tutor and showed others how to put together a 1" scale modern rolled-up umbrella. Yes that's me waiting for my next pupil.

Then, unfortunately, it was over. Now we wait two years for the next Convention which will be held in Wellington and have a theme of "A Grand Tour".

All the photos I took of the many wonderful displays have been stored at Photo Bucket. So if you want to see what New Zealand miniaturists can make please visit http://s139.photobucket.com/albums/q316/cathydiyminis/
