North Shore Miniatures Club Retreat
Friday 18 - Sunday 20 January 2008: The Venue

The Retreat was held at the Peter Snell Youth Village, 1212 Whangaparaoa Road, Whangaparaoa. Pictured is the main building complex with dining room in the middle and accommodation blocks on either end.

For $85 we had somewhere to sleep (a bunk bed), self-serve tea/coffee, two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners. We each brought along lollies and biscuits to share while we worked.

The drive from my home in Auckland up to Whangaparaoa took an hour. I am a very nervous driver and wanted to avoid the late afternoon traffic so left at 1pm. As we were welcome to arrive anytime after 4pm this left me with two hours to kill which I did, parked under a large tree, at Big Manly Beach. I was lucky to find shade as this day was really hot! The beach was quite lovely and popular with both young and old.

At 4pm I was safely parked at the Retreat venue.

27 people attended this year comprising 23 women and 4 men. As the bunk rooms accommodate far more than this I was lucky enough to get room 5 all to myself.

A short walk up a path from the main building complex and your at the hall where all the workshops took place. The view from the hall was spectacular.

More spectacular views from the dining room. This really is a lovely location.
